Helping companies communicate better

wordpress for websites

Erati Joins In

We at Splashpress Media are having a re-design bash and this time Erati has been called upon, dressed in a new and exciting look. Covering news, view and reviews in the Television industry, styled with a clean look.

We worked up a plan to tie together the content for a reader on the homepage so that it looks clean, professional, and easy to read. Since TV is a visual medium, using lots of images was a priority feature.

We have used the CartoGothic Std font by Fontsite.com and implemented it using the @font-face. The logo has been overhauled and different sections have been created for content for better navigation. We have yet again trusted the Genesis Theme Framework to handle our work.

Enjoy the new design at Erati!

An all new Freelance Writing Jobs

Freelance Writing Jobs - freelancewritinggigs.com

Yes, we’re still on a redesign spree with our network websites and this time it’s Freelance Writing Jobs, completely unrecognizable from its old look. It’s lighter and shall we say more writerly—the logotype, hues, textures, and use of manicules all lend to that feeling.

Much of the work went into reorganizing the homepage such that everything is at your fingertips. From the introductory message about FWJ to the equal height boxes and aligned headings (with a little help from jQuery of course), everything is neatly arranged so you don’t get overwhelmed by the information this massive site has to offer. The grid is your friend.

FWJ’s new logo uses the Philosopher web font, which is designed by Jovanny Lemonad and available for embedding through the Google Font Directory. Under the hood, we’ve turned once again to the trusty Genesis Theme Framework.

The ForeverGeek Realign

ForeverGeek

Next up on our roster was a realignment of ForeverGeek. A realignment, you say? If you’re familiar with the old design, this new iteration still carries a similar look and layout, but with a few new touches.

There are now four main sections on the homepage: Features, Games, Anime & Comics, and the Rest—color-coded so they’re easy to distinguish. At the top, the latest post is featured in each box. In the content area, each section dynamically cycles through each post (with the help of the jQuery Cycle plugin).

ForeverGeek media

Another new feature is the Media Wall, located at the footer of every page. Aside from categories and tags, letting visitors explore your site by images is a smart idea. Clicking on a thumbnail leads you to a larger view of the image, also containing links to related images added in the same article. The image attachment functions in WordPress make this easy to implement.

On the CSS3 front: While rounded corners aren’t really a new thing on ForeverGeek, the border-radius module makes it easier than ever. (It’s still a little complicated, but thank goodness for modern browsers!) We also used a bit of box-shadow and webkit-transition for the hover effects. And of course, a sprinkling of @font-face for the headers to use a typeface that matches the original branding.

So there you have it folks, the new ForeverGeek. Hope you enjoy the new site!

10 Businesses and Brands Using WordPress That Might Surprise You

I often write about cool websites built on WordPress.org that you’d never know are built on a blogging application in the BusinessLogs WordPress for Business Websites series. [Read more…] about 10 Businesses and Brands Using WordPress That Might Surprise You

Call for Business Submissions

Does your business Web site run on WordPress or another blogging application?  I highly recommend using WordPress, not just for business blogging, but for your entire business Web site.  I use it for mine (see the image to the left), and I’d like to start a new series here on BusinessLogs that highlights businesses that use WordPress or another blogging application to create their Web sites.

I’m looking for business sites that look like Web sites, not like blogs, on the home page at least (of course, a blog can be attached to the site, and it should be).  The goal of the series is to not only show how flexible blogging applications like WordPress are, but also to show how great a business Web site can look when it’s built on WordPress (or another blogging application).

Plus, really cool submissions might even be featured in my upcoming book coming out in 2011, “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to WordPress”, but the first priority is sharing the great work businesses are doing in leveraging blogging platforms to create awesome Web sites here on BusinessLogs.

To submit your business site for consideration in the series, just leave a comment on this post with your site’s URL. Chosen submissions will appear in a future blog post with screenshots of your site and links back to your site.

Note that the series won’t critique sites but rather provide an overview of the cool things site owners are doing with WordPress, etc. to build their businesses and brands.

Feel free to share this request with your own audiences via Twitter, Facebook, your business blog, etc.!  Let’s find some really great business sites built on WordPress, etc. to highlight here on BusinessLogs!
