Like most designers, I do my design comps (prototypes) in Photoshop. And also like most designers, I’m a typophile and am obsessed with the best looking type I can achieve in my designs. After all these years, I do believe the one thing that irks me most about Photoshop is the way it renders text — the four different anti-aliasing settings suck because I’m spoiled by the Mac OS X Cocoa text rendering engine which makes text look 10x better.
Top Ten Sources: Stealing Your Content?
I just stumbled upon a site called Top Ten Sources, and if I’m assessing it correctly, I believe that editors pick a topic and then find ten weblogs they feel are good resources on that topic to comprise their “Top Ten List”. These editors then make a page for that topic (Venture Capital for example), which aggregates the editor’s Top 10 blogs into one page of information. Each page is essentially an aggregator that pulls down the latest content from those chosen blogs, and republishes that content on the Top Ten Sources site.
Favorite Sites Of The Moment
A quickie post for this holiday weekend, my favorite sites right now:
- Dangergraphics.com is just nasty. I’ve loved that site for awhile now — the illo touches, iconography, and slick Lucida Grande typographic stylings are just fantastic. Jason was even kind enough to drop 9rules into his favorite links.
- Wolfgang’s Bartelme Design has that Mac OS X slick look that I love, and his icon design work is truly unparalleled.
- Varien’s Family Page is my favorite page on the site, and their Design Director Ben Blumenfeld recently hit me up to show me their new company blog. Great stuff.
What are your favorite sites right now?
iWeb-Generated Source Code is Awful
My buddy and business partner Colin Devroe drove all the way to New Jersey last night from northern Pennsylvania to purchase iLife ’06. He just used iWeb to put together a little page about his wedding a few years back. The design looks great, except, check out the source code.
