Anil Dash draws up some great conclusions about the new “built to flip” economy and I couldn’t agree more. He thinks that these new “web 2.0” startups aren’t thinking IPO but are looking to get acquired, which probably makes sense considering all the acquiring that’s been going on (Weblogs, Inc., Upcoming.org, Weblogs.com, etc.).

Show Me Disruptive Startups
I was so thrilled to read our buddy Richard MacManus come through with an honest look at the “web 2.0” world:
My Basecamp Feature
Almost a year ago Jason and I were collaborating on a project, and he thought a little thing I did inside of our Basecamp install was cool. Cool enough to actually integrate it into the real app. I randomly found that while going through some stuff online, and thought you guys would get a kick out of it.
Oh, and about the same time I was interviewed over there about how Business Logs uses it to manage client projects. The text is a bit dated (no, I’m not still in college!) but it’s still kinda cool 😉
Jakob Nielsen’s Love for Office 12 Comes At A Price
I was looking at Blogdex when I came across Jakob Nielsen’s latest Alertbox article: R.I.P. WYSIWYG – Results-Oriented UI Coming. In the article, Jakob Nielsen asserts that WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interfaces are now dead, and that the future of user interfacing lies inside the next version of Microsoft Office, where pointing and clicking to modify pre-built templates is the real way to go. Excuse me Jakob, but you’re so full of shit it’s coming out your ears.

Flock and Web 2.0: The Leaning Tower of Buzz
Well everybody, if you haven’t been seeing PR praise for Flock on the interweb then you must have been living under a Web 1.0 rock for awhile. Wired has praised it, Bessemer Venture Partners and many others gave them tons of money (enough to hire ~12 people out the shoot, supposedly around $2 million), nearly 70,000 people are talking about it on Technorati, but all this buzz isn’t really doing it for me.
