Blog Search Engine Rebooted

Blog Search Engine

The all-new Blog Search Engine carries a cleaner, more modern and professional aesthetic, and makes sure to put the featured blogs in the spotlight by the use of prominent screenshots of their websites.

Since there was going to be a lot of images on the page, we thought it best to use solid blocks of color for everything else, including the social media icons on the sidebar. An important element to the design was grid alignment: we wanted to make sure that the boxes on the content area aligned with those of the sidebar, as well as the categories in the footer, so nothing looked out of line.

Another little detail was taking a featured blog’s category, e.g. “animal blogs” and using some regex magic to turn it into singular labels at the footer of each item. It was of course more important to highlight what type of blog it was than the usual date the post is published and using singular instead of plural description focuses on that single blog, instead of simply belonging to a group of blogs.

Check out Blog Search Engine today! Perhaps after you enroll in our blog design services you’d gain a wonderful citation on that directory.

Facebook Marketing by Justin R. Levy – Review

This week, I received a complimentary copy of Facebook Marketing: Designing Your Next Marketing Campaign by Justin R. Levy to read and review.  This is an updated, 2010 version of Levy’s original Facebook Marketing, published by a division of Pearson Education.

Let me start by saying this is not a how-to book.  You won’t find page after page of screenshots walking you through the specific steps you should take to create a Facebook page, Facebook group, or Facebook profile.  Instead, this is very much a why book.  It clearly and concisely explains why businesses should be using Facebook to market their products, services, and brands to the social web community on a site where consumers are already spending time.

Here is the chapter run-down: [Read more…] about Facebook Marketing by Justin R. Levy – Review

Blogging All-in-One for Dummies Teaches Everything about Blogging

If you’re new to business blogging, then you might like to have a book by your side to use as a resource.  My new book, Blogging All-in-One for Dummies, is now available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and all other online and offline sellers, and it’s a very comprehensive reference tool for any blogger who is still trying to learn his or her way around the blogosphere and social Web.

Blogging All-in-One for Dummies is over 700 pages and is made up of 8 minibooks that teach anything and everything that beginners need to know to become active bloggers who are welcome members of the blogging community.  When you read this book, you’ll learn how to choose a blogging application, start a blog, publish content, make money from your blog, and grow your blog’s audience.

Business bloggers will be particularly interested in the minibook about business and corporate blogging as well as the minibook about niche blogging, which is essential for businesses who need to raise brand awareness through their blogs, position their brands effectively, and find their target audiences across the social Web in order to deliver their brand messages.  Since I’m a marketer by profession, much of Blogging All-in-One for Dummies touches on business-related subjects.  I can’t help myself!

While a book shouldn’t replace your ongoing online learning, they are a great supplemental tool to help learn the basics of blogging.  My hope is that Blogging All-in-One for Dummies not only teaches the basics of blogging but also teaches bloggers how to set up and maintain successful blogs that enable them to meet their unique blogging goals.
